Digital VAXstation 3100 M38
This was the first Digital computer I acquired. The system has a 100MB and a 200MB hard disk installed. Currently, I leave them disconnected because I don't want to damage them, or damage the install of OpenVMS 6.2.
The reason I have the front panel removed is so I can easily plug in my PiSCSI to the SCSI bus. I recently got the correct cable to connect to the rear SCSI connection, but I haven't tested it yet.
I've been experimenting with OpenVMS 7.3, which is the last version of OpenVMS released for VAX. This is the first time I've ever used OpenVMS. Its a very different experience compared to Windows or UNIX.
I was able to get TCPIP installed and working, as well as the WASD web server. WASD took about 10 hours to compile on this system, and the simple HTML web page with 4 pictures takes about 5 seconds to load.
I've tested a few different operating systems including OpenVMS 7.3, Ultrix 4.5, and NetBSD. NetBSD was interesting since it's a new OS. The SSH keys took about 45 minutes to generate.
Mouse Adapter
I don't have a DEC mouse, so I put together a board for a converter using this code.
Eventually, I want to build a mouse and keyboard adapter that uses USB using the Raspberry Pi Pico
